July 2010 marked the first ever Alumni Institute of our organization. This weekend took alumni, board members and other supporters of LEI to Perry County and the beautiful campus of Judson College. Alumni reconnected and renergized and were provided with useful tools to help them in their everyday lives.

LEI Class 10 Summer Institute DAY ONE (28 Photos)
DAY ONE of Class 10 Summer Institute at Judson College in Marion Alabama...students checked in between 10:30 and noon and after lunch were welcomed by Dr. Suzanne Martin - Executive Director for Leading Edge Institute, along with Dr. Billie Jean Young and Judson President, Dr. David Potts. The afternoon was entitled "Defiming Leadership Together" and included a "chair Sit" group activity followed by a presentation on Social Change Leadership. Students met with their Reflection Group leaders for the first time - something that will continue daily throughout the week. The evening ended with a Knowledge Cafe presented by Dr. Suzanne Martin.

LEI Class 10 Summer Institute DAY TWO (47 Photos)
DAY TWO of Class 10 Summer Institute focused on "Learning about ourselves in community." Students heard from Jennifer Dunn Hall during the StrengthsFinder Workshop. Then Dr. Suzanne Martin presented Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory and detailed explanations which had students laughing and engaged for most of the afternoon. After dinner students went through the "Trust Sequence" segment with their reflection group leaders.

LEI Class 10_Summer Institute DAY FIVE (32 Photos)
DAY FIVE was about Understanding, Including and Working With Others...including morning and afternon sessions with Dr. Stephen Parker and Melanie McNary of Protective Life. The afternoon was time to explore Marion with choices of Barton's beach, Perry Lakes Park, Lincoln School and the Women's Hall of Fame. Local leadership dinner and discussion - "the fish bowl" - was held at Lottie's Restaurant and included Frances Ford, Don McMillan, Byron Holmes, Della Maynard, Mary More,and Susan Jones. The night ended with the Dreaming, Crusading and Stretching Exercises - Exec. Director Suzanne Martin explained that LEI was "born" using this very exercise!

LEI Class 10_Summer Institute DAY FOUR (68 Photos)
Day FOUR focused on Women & Politics with a trip to Montgomery and Selma. Students heard from Lt. Gov Kay Ivey and AL Finance Director David Perry. Next Senator Vivien Figures and Representative Merika Coleman spoke in the State House Chambers; next students heard from Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb at the Judicial Building. LEI Montgomery Community Council hosted the students at Capitol City Club with a panel on "Women Influencing Decisions in Society moderated by Hon. Vanzetta McPherson. Panelists included Dr. Marquita Davis, Sen Vivian Figures, Martha Demere, Ellen Brooks, Julia Ventress, Rev Susan Diamond and Mandy McMichael. After visiting the Southern Poverty Law Center we departed to Selma to walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and visit the Voting Rights Museum. We ended the day with dinner at Grumbles Alley and a local leadership panel including Susan Keith, Angela Benjamin, Tommy Atchison, Jean Jackson. AWESOME day! Like · Share

DAY SIX of LEI Class 10 Summer Institute took the students to various sites around Marion and Greensboro for service projects, a visit to rural studios and finally the much anticipated PIE LAB...for pie, reflection exercise, dinner and meeting with Greensboro leadership.

LEI Class 10_Summer Institute DAY THREE (33 Photos)
DAY THREE of LEI Class 10 Summer Institute highlighted Women's Leadership. Students heard about Powerful & Effective Communication by Dr. Jacque Shaia; and Who Cares About Girls? presented by Benga Harrison, former LEI Executive Director and Dr. Ashley Carroll Norris. Dallas Teague Snider presented the "Professional You Luncheon" sponsored by The University of Phoenix which included a workshop on etiquette and fashion show with clothes from Collage Consignment and modeled by LEI students. The afternoon featured two workshops - Women and Money by LEI Alum Jeris Burns and the "Circle of Living Leaders" featuring Virginia Sweet, Tina Savas, Myrna Pittman, Vikki Grodner, Susie Kelley and Naomi Truman. The evening was capped off with a presentation entitled "Understanding Ourselves as Alabamians:Dinner and Discussion with LEI Alum Fightress Stallworth Aaron, Sean and Shannon Flynt and LEI Founder Amanda Vaughan. Ice cream awaited everyone afterwards...then it was reflection groups and bed...we have an early start on DAY FOUR!

LEI 10th Anniversary Celebration - March 6, 2010 (104 Photos)
"Living on the Edge: A Ten Year Celebration of LEI" ended Saturday evening (March 6th) with a celebration at Park Lane, English Village. A Festive evening of food, drink and music featured a panel of four dynamic business women: Mistress of Ceremonies Sherri Jackson - Weekday Anchor of CBS 42 News; Amy Bailey - Editor & Publisher of MyScoop online style magazine for the Southern fashionista; Kathy Boswell - Director of Community Evolvement, Princeton Baptist Medical Center (and LEI Board Member); Tracy True Dismukes - Owner of Collage Designer Consignment & Host of Consignment Chic Television & Online community for Consignment Shoppers; and Melissa Kendrick - Owner of Sojourns, Alabama's first fair trade store.

LEI 10th Anniversary Summit - March 6, 2010 (85 Photos)
The LEI 10th Anniversary Summit was entitled "Launching a Life on the Edge." This event took place at Cobb Lane Cariage House with recap across the cobblestone street at J.Clyde's restaurant patio. Beautiful venue for this interactive brunch program with dynamic speakers. Keith Cromwell of Red Mountain Theatre Company and Duane Wade of Duane Wade & Associates lead the interactive professional development activities. This was followed by seven breakout sessions or "launch pads" to discuss barriers or obstacles to launching your life. Alumni in attendance also posed for class pictures. Eight of the nine classes were represented this time! Added features were the stress (or "destressing") bar and the beauty bar where attendees could get a quick makeover or play with items for a calming effect.
